Me: why isn't this bonded interface coming up on this server ugh?
Me 30 seconds later: oh the Linux kernel module for bonding isn't loaded for some reason
I swear to god if someone @s me with "have you tried this other $DISTRO" I'll throw a 1U server at you
@staticsafe Is this an offer?
@staticsafe what kind of server *ducks*
@staticsafe does that include customs
@staticsafe have you tried hannah montana linux
@boots oh god I remember that
anyways my weekend just started so time to go get some dinner and play video games and what not
@staticsafe hey I need a 1U have you tried Qubes?
@wxcafe is that the fancy every program as a VM distro?
@staticsafe yeah. It’s nice in concept but pretty poor in execution. Subgraph is better afaik
@staticsafe have you tried arch?
*waits for my complementary 1U*
@er1n yeah I lived through the systemd transition era of Arch Linux, exciting times
@staticsafe what about gentoo
@er1n I ran Gentoo as my personal desktop for a bit and my self-hosted mail server used to run Gentoo

that is a screenshot from my Gentoo install from way back when
@staticsafe @er1n you're lucky if you dont get people asking "what about pleroma" in your mentions
@staticsafe @er1n me too, although honestly that transition was the beginning of the end of problems with arch for me. I've honestly not had an arch install break since
I use Arch for my personal website because bundling packages for any other distribution is awful
@staticsafe I've got an old Pentium 4 1U, 2GB RAM, and a *floppy drive* if you need more ammo :)
possibly related, I recently installed a custom forked version of Centos 7 that works with FreePBX and Asterisk for a telephone exchange, and after the distro installs from USB *having updated via the network*, the ethernet port is *shut off* after reboot (it is not set to automatically start on boot)
I had to physically edit some config file from the console - (this is what had to be done, no idea why RH/Centos/whoever even does such a thing.

@vfrmedia that's amazing 🤦🏾♂️
also no thanks to the networking scripts on CentOS 7 not telling me what the actual problem was
"I can't bring up the bond interface :("
BUT WHY?
helpful error messages, who needs 'em eh?
